Rwanda is called the “Land of a Thousand Hills” because much of the country is covered by rolling, grassy hills. There are also volcanic mountains in the northwestern part of the country. With an area of just 26,340 square kilometres, Rwanda is only slightly larger than Maryland or Vermont.

Day 2-3:
Parc National Des Vulcans

Begin the day with an early morning drive to the briefing station from where you will begin gorilla tracking in Parc National des Vulcans (Volcanoes National Park). Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience that hundreds of tourists travel far and wide to see. Spend an hour with the friendly primates, and head back to base in time for a late lunch!

Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy. Later in the afternoon, visit the Iby’ iwacu cultural village to experience the culture and life of the beautiful Rwandese people.
